String art is characterized by an arrangement of colored thread strung between points to form abstract geometric patterns or representational designs.

This type of art is basically sewing thin colored string, like embroidery floss or colored twine, onto a thick card stock paper. The results can be simple or complex. You can even find patterns online to print out and use as a guide, or you use your ruler and pencil to make a pattern. Here are some easy patterns that you can print out.
Some styles of string art are made using nails or tacks hammered into a piece of wood. In that case the string is wrapped around the nail, sometimes going around the same nail more than once to create different patterns. This website has instructions and some free patterns to download for this type of string art.
