Technology 1 Introduction 6th Grade

Welcome to Computer Technology I:

This is the first of three computer classes at Evergreen. This class is primarily aimed at keyboarding instruction and improvement. The primary piece of software that we use is “All the right type.” This is a repetitive skill building program and frankly is pretty boring. But if the effort is given it yields great results. Effort is the primary skill that is graded. Some students will have motor skill issues that slow their growth; others have advantages such as piano training which gives them quite a leg up over the rest of the class. As such, effort and behavior constitute 50% of the total grade in this class. My rationale is that given some very new and strenuous tasks the students need to try and learn even if the assigned task fails they may have grown tremendously.
When not doing the drill instruction students will work in Microsoft word typing articles and stories. As a break I through in a couple of Social Studies based simulations.

Grading:

Grades fall into these broad categories.

• Effort and behavior 50%
• Assignments 40%
• Tests 10%
• Practice tests 0% (this is used as a tracking for relative
• speed and errors)

Assignment grading scale

• A+ 10
• A 09
• B 08
• C 07
• D 06
• F 05
o 0 this score is used for missing work and as it is averaged in, will count as two F’s.

I do accept late work. If an assignment is not complete on the due date, there is a 1 week grace period to get the assignment done. *This makeup work is outside of class time as we will have started a new assignment the day after due day.
Obviously students with significant absences will have an extended grace period.

Daily schedule:

For the most part we stat the class with 15- 20 minutes of typing practice. This is followed by working the other side of the brain in paint, or, working on one of our large projects.
