Grading Information
GRADING INFORMATION
Assessments will be based on the targets and standards set by the state and district.
The question is whether or not you have learned the concepts and skills- not did you
just fill in the blanks. This means that your grade will be based on end of learning and performance activities
(tests, projects, formal essays, presentations, etc.) that assess these standards.
Practice Assignments
Practice work is used to provide feedback regarding where you are in acquiring the knowledge/skills addressed. Be sure to read this feedback!!
The idea here is to allow you the opportunity to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them without being penalized.
It is ESSENTIAL and IMPORTANT that you do these practice assignments so that you acquire the knowledge and skills that you will later be assessed on.
Redoing Assessments:
You will have the opportunity to redo tests, projects, formal essays, etc. if you are unhappy with your grade – before school, after school, or during lunch. However, in order to do so you must show that you have completed all practice work to standard. I reserve the right to assign additional practice activities (if needed) for you to complete before allowing you the retake.
Missing/Incomplete Work:
Practice assignments will NOT be accepted beyond the unit assessment. The only exception to this is if you want to redo a unit assessment.
Absent Work:
If you are absent it is YOUR responsibility to get your missed assignments. Questions about missed work should be asked before or after class. Extra copies of handouts will be available on-line for you to print. It is not my responsibility to give you another copy. Absences are not excuses and will NOT change the due date unless it is for an extended period of time, and then must be cleared by me.
Homework:
I assign homework. There are certain standard weekly/nightly homework assignments that will be known from the beginning and expected all year including 30 minutes of reading five nights a week. Other assignments will be given in class with the expected due date. Often class time will be given to begin homework. Students have a tendency to end up with more homework when class time is not used efficiently.
Plagiarism & Cheating:
Plagiarism is defined by Webster as, “using the writings or ideas of another as one’s own.”
Plagiarizing is not tolerated in this class. Cheating in any other form, on any assignment or assessment, will result in the same consequences as those received for plagiarism. Any plagiarized work will receive 0 credit and parents will be notified and a record will be placed in your disciplinary file. You will not be given an opportunity to redo the assignment.
